We are Heidi and Johan. After a career of more than 30 years as a teacher and as a self-employed entrepreneur, we decided in 2023 to take a new direction and realise a long-cherished dream: running a B&B in the Westhoek region.
At the end of 2023, we purchased a former farmhouse consisting of a main house, a barn and several stables. A thorough renovation of the house and outbuildings resulted in our family home and a small-scale B&B with two rooms (each for 2 persons) and a studio (up to 5 persons).
During the renovation, we opted for geothermal heat pumps combined with underfloor heating, sustainable materials and high-quality insulation of the floors, walls and roof.
Thanks to the natural slope of the terrain and a carefully designed garden layout around the outdoor swimming pool, both our privacy and that of our guests are guaranteed.
Our B&B is located in Heuvelland, more specifically in Nieuwkerke, close to Ypres and Poperinge and just a short distance from the French border.
We chose the name “Tjusteplekske” because of the peace and quiet you experience here and the panoramic views of the forest of Ploegsteert, Mesen, Lille and the surrounding area.
The region is especially known for its beautiful hiking and cycling routes, its war history, charming villages with cosy restaurants and cafés, as well as its vineyards and hop fields.
